Tea Ceremony / お茶＝一期一会

I have been thinking about going to learn tea ceremony how it's done for a pretty long time. But I just didn't have a time, and didn't know where to go. When I've finally found that a friend of mine is going to a Buddhism Temple in Los Angeles, I told her I was soooo interested although it took a while to make myself be at the temple.

Finally, seriously "real" finally, I was there to learn the spirit of "Tea Ceremony".

ずーーーーっと考えていたことでしたが、陶芸について学びたくて考え始めた茶道のレッスンへやっと昨日行ってきました。（場所はダウンタウンの外れにあるメキシカンタウンの中。こんなところにお寺が！って思うようなところにあります。）お友達のきょんきょんがいつもお茶を習っているからと言ってくれていたのでしたが、そのクラスは日曜日で、いつも何かしら用事があったり、彼女との予定が合わなかったりとなかなか行けなかったのですが、昨日、やーーーっと行ってきました。

I thought this is just a learning experience of "technique" how to serve traditional tea. HOWEVER, it was more than that. I should be shamed of myself not to know about my own culture, but it was kind of eye-opener for myself. Of course, I learned about a little of technique how to be served, how to drink, and how to appreciate tea. I haven't registered yet, so I just watched but the instructor let me join to the guest group.

But what I learned yesterday also was how to "appreciate". The instructor told us "treat an object/person with an appreciation like this might be the last time to see it/the person". This is called in Japanese "Ichigo-ichie".

This is very famous terminology from the master of tea. I always "think" I do appreciate towards to the object/person, but also my ego bothers myself, and forget to appreciate. This thought also belongs to the Buddhism thought. Somehow lately I've gotten to be little spiritual this week. This is a good thing. :)

今回は見学ということで、お茶を立てるというレッスンは受けませんでしたが、お茶の飲み方、お菓子を頂くタイミング、お茶を飲んだ後の器の見方など色々と教わりこれがお茶のレッスンだと思っていましたが、今回の先生から

学んだものはそのお茶の「飲み方」以外にも一つ一つに感謝をする気持ち＝一期一会も学び、なんか小さいことだし、いつもやっているような気もすることなんだけど、よく考えてみるとやっていなかったこの「感謝」。

小さなお茶をすくう竹のスプーン（名前なんだっけ、、、）を見るときに習う「どなたがどのような気持ちで作ったか」「この人のテクニックは」, お茶だけでなくまわりの四季にまつわる掛け軸、お花への興味などなど、自分が期待していたレベルを遥かに上回る経験をさせて頂きました。これは思ったより収穫が大きくてこの日は自分の心が豊になったような気がします。最近、スピリチャルになれる人に会うチャンスが多く、これは自分に今必要としているエネルギーなのでは、と思い始めています。

Lunch on Wednesday

After I came back to see a screening of "Spring Breakdown" (The film was just ok. It's for high school kids who loves this kind of party-comedy) with Cindy at Burbank 16 Movie Theatre (I saw Mayumi's husband's brother in the film!), I stopped by Ralph's at Hollywood + Western Ave to get some spaghetti for lunch tomorrow.

Tomorrow is my turn again. I was thinking we have been eating Japanese food lately, so I decided to make Japanese-Italian Pasta (it's still Japanese, isn't it...). But, Aya chan made Tortellini with tomato sauce today's lunch. Oh well, my lunch tastes more Japanese way so I hope she is okay with this. Today's lunch title is: "Spinach and Sausage pasta with Sesame Mayonnaise sauce". It was my first time to cook this, but it came out pretty good. And I had to take some photos of this.

仕事帰りにBurbankという隣町まで行って「Spring Breakdown」という映画の試写会に友達Cindyと行ってきました。この映画、高校生が春休みにパーティーリゾート地へ行ってばか騒ぎするコメディー。もうちょっと奥深く面白くしようよと思ったけど、題名からしてぱっとしない感じ。映画が終わってからアンケート訊かれたけどほとんどのコメントに「つまらなかった、だいたいエンディングは予想できた、もうちょっとひねりが必要かも」などと嫌なコメントばかり残してしまったよ。んーまーアンケートだからいっか。一つの意見だよ、これもまた。最後に好きなシーン：「盲導犬が卒業するところ」。。。笑

映画の後はRalph'sへよって明日のお昼を作るためにスパゲティを買ってきました。今日のレシピもCook Padで。
一応タイトルは「水菜とハムのごまマヨパスタ」でもうちには水菜もハムもなかったので、「ほうれん草とソーセージのごまマヨパスタ」にしました。出来は．．．結構おいしい♪　あやちゃんのお口に合いますでしょうか。
いつもなら忘れる記念撮影も、今日はちゃんと覚えてました。ちょっとオレンジっぽいけど、まーいっか。

I was listening a few songs during my cooking. They are low key and reminds me of 70's disco a little. Except the Presets, In Flagranti, and Metro Area came from Brooklyn, NY. I don't know much of them, but I read they've been around a quite few years.

お料理しながら聴いてた何曲かここに上げておきます。上の二つは結構メローで、70年代のディスコを思い出させるような感じの曲です。二組ともNew Yorkはブルックリン出身だそうです。the Presetsは前のブログにも書いたようにオーストラリア出身。（最近オーストラリア出身のホットなバンドが多いなー）

Recipe of the pasta (for 2 people)

-Spinach - 1 bunch -ほうれん草　１束
-Sausage - 3 bunch(?) - ソーセージ３本
-Spaghetti - for 2 people - スパゲッティ２人分
-Mayonnaise - 1tbl spoon - マヨネーズ　大さじ１杯
-Soy Sauce - 2tble spoon - しょうゆ　大さじ２杯
-Mirin - 1tble spoon - みりん　大さじ１杯
- Mashed White Sesame -すりつぶし白ごま
- Black Pepper - 黒胡椒　少々

1- Cut Spinach and Sausage as you like.
2- Boil pasta for 9 -10 min.
3- Put mayonnaise in a pan and boiled it.
4- When you see mayonnaise boiled, you added sausage and cooked-pasta to it and mix.
5- Add soy sauce, and mirin onto #4 and mix
6- Add spinach and cook, mix well
7- Add mashed white sesame and black pepper
8- Voil-la! Itadakimasu!!

Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend was pretty mellow. I didn't plan much, just wanted to go with a flow.
But, I always have something to do anyway...

On this Sunday, there was a DJ coming from Chicago (I believe...) who is supposed to be a big name for house music. His name was DJ Sneak. I invited Midori, Mayumi, and Akiko if they wanted to come and see his playing. There was someone else, but he wanted to stop talking to me under special circumstances so he didn't come, obviously... It was too bad to lose a friend like this, but what can I do... (sorry, no detail) Instead of Akiko and this guy, Mayumi's husband, and his brother came along.
Elevate Lounge was located very close from my work on Wilshire (+Flower). It is on 21st floor and they got a nice view to see whole downtown Los Angeles, and got a patio that we can have some drink and chill. It was cloudy in this morning, so we weren't sure we wanted to go, but we were glad we decided to go.

今週末はメモリアルデーウィークエンドでした。いつもは毎日のようにプランを立てて忙しくしているのですが、今回はなるべく立てないようにしてゆっくりしようかなーって思っていたんだけど、いつも何かあるんだなー。
日曜日はシカゴからDJ SneakというDJが来るということで、かなり彼の音楽が好きだった私はいつものガールズ、みどり、まゆみ、あっこを誘って行ってみようということに。結局あっこちゃんは来れなかったけど、代わりにまゆみんのだんなさんとだんなさんの弟くんが一緒に来ました。
このElevate Lounge,結構眺めがいいから天気のいい日にはここは最高です。風通しもいいからちょっと暑くても気持ちいいー。おいしくてさっぱりするヴォッカトニックを飲んで、DJ Sneakのかっこいい音楽聴いて（最初誰も踊ってなかったのが寂しかったー）仲良しガールズとおしゃべり。

だんなさんの弟、マットは「一応」俳優さん．．．。最近は俳優業はしてないみたいだけど。私の好きだった「Will & Grace」というコメディーにも出ていたみたいなんだけど．．．覚えてないです。ごめんね。

The big guy with a headphone, that is the DJ Sneak. There weren't too many people in this club since it started so early like 3pm even though it was Sunday night... No wonder not too many people showed up... His music was good though.

Entertainment Week Part 2

5-24-08 Foals Night

I wasn't like this before when I was in Japan though I just love to see a band I love in person. Feel the energy, feel the song, and feel the crowd. Especially, the ticket is so affordable to go here in Los Angeles, comparing to a price in Japan, it just makes me easier to go. (it was like $40 and up in Japan 14 years ago)

But this week was just overloaded of concerts... Cut Copy, the Presets, and this Foals. I don't think I will do this again for a while... it was so much fun but used too much energy.
I am so glad this weekend is Memorial Day weekend. I could sleep till I NATURALLY wake up, not by my alarm clock. :)

今週はタイトルの様にエンターテイメント週で、ちょっと疲れたかも．．．。金曜日にFoalsというバンドのショーに行って来て、超楽しかったけど、１週間のうちに３つ以上のバンドを見るという行動は多分もーしばらくの間、取らないかなー。でもやっぱりコンサートっていうのはバンドや観客のエネルギーを感じたり、大好きな歌を生で聴けたり、皆と一緒になってこういう一時を分かち合うっていうのがいい、超いい。だから席もできれば1階席じゃないと嫌っていうのが自分の中にある。２階だとなんかそのエネルギーの中に溶けこんでいない感じがするからね。

Ok, back to Foals... They played at the Troubadour in West Hollywood. I love this venue since this place is sooooo small, and we can get to see the band so close. If you can find a band you like playing here, I definitely get a ticket through FAX (so then you don't have to get sucked in all the "convenience charge" by Ticketmaster). It will be like $10 plus $2 (service fee! Cheap!!). Not bad, eh?

This venue is kind a starter venue for a big name band when they were just starting to sell their names. I saw the Killers, the Youth Group, the Elefant, of Montreal, DATAROCK, Tahiti 80 etc...　When they come back to LA and play again, they always have a show at a bigger venue like Wiltern, and Hollywood Bowl (if they play at Hollywood Bowl, that means they are BIG). Anyway, the Foals music was great, and felt so much energy! But the vocalist wasn't looking at the center/front, so we ended up watching his back almost whole entire show.

今回のFoalsはWest HollywoodにあるTroubadourというコンサート会場で見ました。ここは自分のお気に入り。この会場、超小さいから、好きなバンドがすぐ目の前で見れる！超売れっ子バンドが最初に音楽活動を初めてちょっと名が売れ始めたぐらいの時にライブをする場所です。the Killers, Youth Group, of Montreal, DATAROCK, Tahiti 80などなど、今は結構名の知れているバンドをここで見ました。このFoalsもでっかく有名になっていくのかね。

We go to concerts often lately... My concert buddies, Evan (left) and Mike (finally on a pic lol - right). And Midori who is not on this picture. She wasn't feeling well this night. It's cool we like same type of music. :)　Let's go something again! lol

最近、この二人と良くコンサートに出かけます。エバン（左）とマイク（右）。あと写真に載ってないけどみどりもね。みどりはこの晩、調子悪かったです。
友達の要素で同じ音楽が好きっていうのは私の中で超大切です。また行こうね！

Man, Megumi and I were supposed to go to Jimmy Kemmel Show (in front of Mann's Chinese Theatre, Hollywood) to see a private show of Foals today... We even took off from our work 30 min earlier and got there at the studio on time, 5:30PM. We waited like 1 hour and half outside even it was cold and drizzling, we were patience and waited because we wanted to see Foals!! And believe or not, this guy works and counts people in cut us off right in front of us!! Can't believe this! We asked 2 more people in but they said no, there were no more seats because of a stupid TV producer who invited to many "House Guest". What was the tickets for which I got online and wasn't it supposed to guaranteed our seats??? We were so mad that we couldn't get to see the band we loved... Sucks... Well, just to feel better, we went in to Virgin Mega Store, and we found this such a cute key cover. And I found something else for Midori too. hehe This is a secret between Megumi and me until Midori's birthday comes (it will be an inside joke though. LoL) And we also went to Tokyo Table on La Cienega Blvd. We just wanted to get GOOOD food and really, feel better. :(

信じられないことが起きたよ！仕事を30分早引けしてまで、めぐっぺと二人で寒い中、雨の中１時間半も待ったJimmy Kemmel Show (Mann's Chinese Theatreの前). Foalsを見るためにうちらがずーーっと楽しみにしていたこのイベントが、バカなプロデューサーの「ハウスゲスト」がたくさんいたためにちょうどうちらがあと１歩で入れるっていうときに打ち切られました。もーーーー！超超超ありえない！！ちゃんと５時半に来いって書いてあるから、時間通りに行ったし！もうショックでショックで、Virgin Mega Store 行って、かわいいキーホルダーケースやけ買いしちゃいました（上の写真見てみろ！どうだ、かわいいだろ！！うらやましいか、プロデューサーめ！。。。は〜、うらやましくないか。。。うぇぇぇ〜〜ん〜）Tokyo Table行っておいしいもの食ってやりました！
東京ねぎっつーものをチャーシューポークと食べておいしかったんだけど、今ちょっと胸やけが。。。年かね。。。
その上、ひつまぶし、東京コブサラダ、もちチーズとたらふく食べて一応うちらの腹のすき具合と怒りは収まりました。ここのレストラン、なぜか超おいしいのに、予約いらずにすぐ入れます。満杯になって、待ち時間30分とか言われたことないです。(あ、ごはんの写真取るの忘れてたよ．．．）

Entertainment Week Part 1

Cut Copy, The Presets, and Foals... These bands are one of my favorite bands lately. I wasn't gonna go to Cut Copy since the tickets were sold out (and bummed out), but thanx to my friend, Mike, he got me a ticket because his friend canceled in last minute! That was a big surprise. :)Cut Copy, the Presets, Foals...最近ハマってる３つのバンドを今週見に行く予定（見た）です。月曜日の Cut Copy は気がついたらもうチケットはソールドアウト。私の仲間まゆみ、みどり、あっこ、めぐみ、皆で超超行きたかったのに、ソールドアウトとは超がっくりで（っていうか多分私が一番がっかりしてたかなー）せめてAfterPartyには行こうという話もしていました。でも友人のマイクがどたんばで「１枚チケット余ってるんだけど、行く？」と誘ってくれたのには大感動！ごめんよ、私一人だけ行ってしまって．．．。

Cut Copy at the Echoplex - Echo Park.
There were some couples around me and am not familiar much with, so I felt a little uncomfortable... but the music itself was pretty good. I loved it.
Echoplexっていうコンサートベニューで。結構中が広く良い感じでしたが、柱がいたるところにあって、邪魔！！
ちっこい私は見えない！！ステージが遠くながらも音楽は結構よかった。カップルばかりの中にいた私はちょっと意心地悪い感じがあったんだけど、あっこちゃんの友達のエリックとチャドにも会って気分はまたノリノリになりました。

And last night was the Presets at the El Rey Theatre (Miracle Mile) . This show was also SOLD OUT! With my buddies: Midori and Mayumi. Mayumi was the one told me about this band. I am so happy I hang out with ppls with same taste of music.
これまたSOLD OUT !昨晩のショー、the Presets！仲良しガールズ、みどりとまゆみんと。The Presetsはまゆみんが教えてくれたんだよね。皆音楽の趣味が似てて嬉しいわー。











We got a pretty cool spot. It wasn't right at front but we were very close to the stage (and speakers...) on the left side. On stage, you see Julian singing.
The El Rey Theatre is a perfect size to see a band so close.
結構ステージに近いスポットをゲット出来た！仲良しみどり、まゆみ、まき、たけと皆で大興奮！
スピーカーにも近くて耳から血が出るのでは．．．と以前じゅんちゃん（これまた仲良しガールズの一人）の話を思い出しながらちょっと心配したけど、これがまた私たちを興奮させるエッセンスとなるのでした。ステージではジュリアンが熱唱してます。


It was the most exciting show I've ever been to!! Look at this crowd!! We were all dancing like a maniac! Jumping jumping jumping around all over!!
このショーは人生の中で一番盛り上がったショーかも。うちら大の大人５人が最高の曲で飛び上がり、踊りまくりました。
コンサート会場がもう皆一体になって興奮のるつぼでした。

The "Entertainment Week Part 2" will be on this Friday and Saturday. Another buddy, Megumi and I will be on Jimmy Kimmel Show (Hollywood) to see the private show of Foals, and on the next day, Midori, Mike, Evan and I are going to see Foals at the Troubador (West Hollywood). Can't wait but I have to get this my cough over before these shows...
"Entertainment Week Part 2"は今週の金曜日、土曜日。紳士の国はイギリスのバンド,　Foalsのショーを両日見に行くのですが、金曜日はJimmy Kimmel Showと言ってテレビ局ABCでのトークショーにFoalsが出演予定。そのプライベートショーのチケットがゲットできたので、またまた仲良しバディーのうちの一人、めぐっぺと一緒に見に行ってきます♪
土曜日は私の大好きなゲイタウン、West HollywoodのTroubadorというコンサートベニューでのショー。超楽しみです。ただ今咳をなんかしていて、早く治さねばと思い、今日仕事を早退して病院行って、薬もらってきました．．．。早く治るかねーー。

Beginning of Summer/初夏

Finally the weather is getting warmer... I prefer being in coldness though
it's already mid-May and until yesterday it was still cool! WTF!! Every morning, I always take a
time and think what to wear, and worry if it's gonna be cold when I'm done working
and go home. Now I don't have to. :) I heard the heat wave is coming in this weekend.
One of my great friends is having a birthday picnic at Griffth Park on this Sat., and
I am kinda worried if we are not going to thirst and dying on the grass...


After working out at Curves, I usually take around 15- 20min to go home by walking.
It was such a lovely evening. I had to take some photos.

I think they are prime rose? Not sure...

my another great friend "Junee"'s blog "Neko-Chan City".

今日はやーーっと５月らしくなってきたというか仕事が終わってビルからでた途端、とても暖かく、気持ちよかったー。昨晩も出かけたせいで、今朝から疲れが取れずに超眠かったし、仕事の後もずーっと歩きながらジムに行く、行かないと自分との戦いでやっと悪魔に勝った私はジムで30分汗を流した後、こんなきれいなごほうびをもらいました。


It was around 7PM already but still had some traffic jam on Franklin Ave.

もうすでに夜の７時を回っていたのに、まだこんなに明るかった。サンセットの日差しがとてもきれいだったので、思わずぱちり。






I stopped by at Junee's house on the way going home since she lives so close from my house.
I just had to see her cats (Mr. Myaogi, and Cleo) how much they have grown. With Elephant cap, Mr. Myaogi doesn't complain much but he seems to think... "WTF is this?? I am not your entertainer!!" That's why he gets to be a bad boy! He is sooooo cute with it though.

ぷらぷら歩いて家へ帰る途中、友人のじゅんちゃんの家がすぐそこにあるので、ちょろっと立ち寄ってみました。みすたーみゃおぎとクレオの２匹も出迎えて（？）くれましたが、すぐにクレオはカウチの下に潜り込んで隠れちゃった。。。みゃおぎの方はこの象のかぶりもので、私の胸をきゅーーんとさせてくれます。

This is the last shot of the day. Before I went to Petco,
and Target to get some stuffs, I had to take this last moment of sunset. Someone told me this is "Magic" moment.

夜、ペットコとターゲットへ買い出しに行く前、アパートから出たらこんな夜景になる寸前のショットをゲットできました。あるカメラマンが教えてくれたのがこの「夜になる寸前」は「マジックモーメント」ということ。ブルー、オレンジ、イエロー、黒、、、色んな色が生えてみえてくる。
